Exertional EKG

Ota & Jinemed Hospital

Exertional EKG

An effort test is an examination performed by continuously recording the ECG and measuring blood pressure while the person walks on a special walking belt. During the effort test, the speed and slope of the walk are increased at certain intervals to increase the heart rate. It ensures that some findings that do not occur on ECG at rest are detected during exertion. Effort test is one of the most important tests in the detection of cardiovascular occlusions.

It is recommended to eat a light meal at least 3 hours before the test. Prolonged fasting or recent ingestion of food during the test is not desirable. Before starting the effort test, the patient's resting ECG should be evaluated by a Cardiologist. You should consult your doctor about any precautions that may need to be taken specifically for you.
